A lot of actors got their start in horror movies and, as a horror movie buff, this has always given me a strange sense of pride. Jonny Depp was in Nightmare on Elm Street. Kevin Bacon was in Friday the Thirteenth. Most people know that.
But here some nerdy little factoids. Did you know Leonardo DiCaprio first starring role was in Critters 3? The movie is an abomination. Leo’s outfit makes him look like a trapper-keeper. But it’s worth the watch, just to see him in a movie that’s so schlocky.
Here are some other cruddy horror films that gave some major league actors their start:
Clint Eastwood—Revenge of the Creature.
Viggo Mortensen—Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3.
George Clooney—Return to Horror High and Return of the Killer Tomatoes.
Jack Nicholson—The Terror
Demi Moore—Parasite 3-d
Renee Zellweger—Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
Tom Hanks—He Knows You’re Not Alone
Hilary Swank—Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Jack Black—I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (he plays a dreadlocked pot head. It’s really wild.) (He was also in The Never Ending Story 3, which was so bad it was practically a horror movie)
Charlize Theron—Children Of The Corn 3
Jim Carrey—Once Bitten
Harrison Ford—The Possessed.
Brad Pitt—Cutting Class
Paul Rudd (damn this guy’s charming)—Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Meyers
There’s a zillion more examples. These are just from movies I’ve seen. Please add to the list.
