Athena Villaverde

Part cyber-punk, part urban fantasy. Cute, punk, and disturbing.

“Francesca Lia Block meets BioShock” – Carlton Mellick III, author of Warrior Wolf Women of the Wasteland

“I loved CLOCKWORK GIRL, and think Athena’s brand of emotional Bizarro adds immensely to the canon. It’s got the kind of weird wide-open heart I’ve been wanting to see more of. And here it is now! Mark me down as a fan.” — John Skipp, author of The Emerald Burrito of Oz

BIOGRAPHY

Athena Villaverde writes bizarro stories that are sexy, dark, and beautiful. Her first novel Starfish Girl is a post-apocalyptic underwater adventure of a gothic lolita striving to escape surreal mutant fish people. Her work is a blend of Jean Pierre Jeunet, Tim Burton and Japanese anime.

She practices chaos magic and is the ruler of her own imaginary universe. She adores things that are super-japanese-cute, kawaii noir, and fetishistic. She likes punk rock, ska, and goth music, drawing, singing, dancing, acting and talking to her cats. Some of her influences are Bjork, Neil Gaiman, Terry Gilliam and Guillermo Del Toro.
